Is $80 good for this card or should I try talking him down some?

you can get a rx 460 or a gtx 1050 for around that much and they are new and better gpus.

It's someone new to PC gaming and he's just trying to get a feel for it. If he really likes it we'll start getting serious about upgrading his computer within a year or 2
