I have an Intel 600P and it is slow sometimes, a sequential read test shows dips into the 200 MB/s range (something my old Samsung EVO840 used to do).

Compare this to my Samsung 960 EVO:

Anyone know why the Intel 600P would dip so low? On My 840 EVO defragmenting actually fixed the issue (later a firmware update from Samsung). Would defragmenting the Intel 600P fix it?

do a real life test

I can test the thermals without software and it says the same as what the software reads. It's not from temperature throttling. It's currently in my Ryzen system but if I put the drive in an Intel rig it also has dips in sequential speeds there as well.

this is a common complaint with the Intel 600P - something to do with the SLC cache/buffer when working with large files.

You don't "defrag" SSD's / solid drives - thats only for hard disks.
