Ok so i got $500 to spend on a good laptop. I would like to be able to run most games on at least medium settings and have the ability to record off the pc itself if possible any good suggestions?

Why laptop? Is it because of College? Or you just want portability? If it's neither of those two please consider building a computer.

Not really going to be able to run games at medium for that much, I don't think?  Your best bet might be a refurb Asus or MSI with a 960M. But that's still going to run you about ~$700?

If you don't need portable, you can build a desktop that would be much better for gaming.

And 960M aren't even really good for gaming. And why not just a used one?

I wouldn't expect to get much gaming at all out of something for $500.  Again, used/refurb Asus or MSI with a 960M is about your best bet if gaming is a must. But that's still going to be $700ish.

Maybe? You're not going to get MUCH gaming out of it with only a 920, but if you're talking League of Legends, that will play on a toaster at 30fps.

the only way you're going to meet those requests with $500 is finding an unusually good deal on a used laptop. You're going to need to increase your budget by (probably) a couple hundred dollars to really hit your target performance level if you're buying new.

It depends a LOT on what type of games you are wanting to play. Frys has a Lenovo with an A12-9700P APU, And good specs otherwise, for $500. And it would be able to play certain games without too much trouble. But if you are wanting to play CSGO competitively, or Far Cry 4 or something it's going to have trouble.
