I am looking to replace my 8GB (4GBx2 1600.) One of the dimms died the other day. I have not bought any RAM since 2011, and was just curious if I can just buy any DDR3.

I was thinking G.SKILL TridentX Series 16GB (2 x 8GB). No reason besides they are the first ones on Newegg that are red.

Budget: Doesn't matter, so I guess $150 USD

Current system: (if it matters)

Spoiler

i7 2600K (H60 cooled) on a Maximus IV Gene-Z

G.SKILL Ripjaws X 4GB (2x2GB 2133)

EVGA Titan X w/ hybrid cooler

850 Evo 500GB, 840 pro 256GB, WD CB 1TB

Yes, any DDR3 RAM will be fine. If there is a mismatch in speed all memory dims will automatically work at the speed of the slowest one.

If your motherboard supports dual channel a matching set is recommended.

You're SUPPOSE to check the QVL on the motherboards manufacturer website but I've never had problems throwing any G.Skill RAM in any computer (with the exception of high speed memory 1866MHz+ or extra dense memory 16GB sticks or denser). Should be fine.

If the BIOS supports the functionality you might have to adjust some settings to get it running at its rated speed/timing.
