I'm doing my first ever build from scratch (for myself) including part list etc. I intend to use it for gaming, and will soon be looking to invest in a 2K or 4K monitor. Budget is £4000 (Great British Sterling) and I am sticking with a Phantek's Enthoo Elite case so that i can expand in the future.

The current system is as follows: (all parts from www.overclockers.co.uk unless stated otherwise)

Auorus GA-Z270X-Gaming 9 £519.95
Intel i7-7700K 4.2GHz £329.99
Nvidia GTX Titan Xp (from Nvidia website) £1159.00
Corsair Vengeance RGB RAM (2x8 @ 3000MHz) £159.95
Corsair AX860i £214.99
Seagate Barracuda 2 x 3TB (Raid format) £94.99*2

Seagate Barracuda 2 x 1TB (Raid format) £44.99*2

Corsair MP500 240GB M2 SSD £158.95
NZXT Kraken X62 £149.99

The reason i am putting this hear is because i am unsure as to whether I should stick with the current CPU and motherboard as the CPU can only support 2 sticks of RAM and 16 PCIE lanes. It is also stated that its Turbo clock speed is 4.5GHz (and i assume it cannot be overclocked past this). In my opinion, i would rather find a CPU that would allow me to expand in the future with additional parts.

To cut a long story short, should i stick with this, or should i keep looking for a better CPU or should i wait and have a look at the new X series that is coming soon?

Thanks for the help.

You can overclock it higher than 4.5ghz and why so much storage. I would go for a 1080ti instead of titan xp. But since you have a budget on 4000 i think you should have 32 gb ram and mayby go for two 1080ti (Sli)

First off, you can get a 1080ti which is much cheaper and gives almost the same performance as the XP. Do you also need that much storage? For the price you could get 2 substantially sized ssds and put those in raid. Other than that it looks fine :)

The only reason I'm here is that I have homework that I don't want to do

PC  Specs   CPU: Intel Celeron N3060 |GPU: Intel HD graphics 400 |RAM2 gigs  |STORAGE16 gigs

It took me half an hour to find where to change my signature :(

SLI isn't used in most games and a 1080ti is plenty for 4k which this system could run

I would go for a gtx 1080ti sli configuration instead of the titan Xp. I would even go for one gtx 1080ti over the titan Xp because you are spending 500 something odd dollars for a few percentages increase in performance. Also I wouldn't buy a 500 dollars motherboard as its ridiculously overkill for anything you would need. I could see spending 300 on an overkill motherboard with your budget but 500 seems excessive even when compared to other excessive motherboards

Are you doing anything else apart from gaming ? i.e Editing/Rendering or Twitch Streaming etc ?

If you are buying solely from Overclockers then you should also make a post over on their Forum. Some good folks over there as well (Including Me :D)

Also spending £800 on a case seems a bit mental to Me. There are lots of Full Towers for way less than that. If you are not going to fill it with a custom loop then it is going to look empty.

The Enthoo Luxe Glass Edition is a really nice case for just under £160.

ITs primarily  for gaming personally, as Youtube and twitch streaming are just extra hobbies. I am getting this case in particular because i may do water cooling system a few years down the line

Why not do a custom loop from the off ? You have the budget for it. I would still get a cheaper case as this is taking up 1/5th of the budget.

Something like the Luxe above or the bigger Primo are both good for water cooling. Lian Li also do a monster watercooling case for £550.

The reason that i am not doing a water cooled system straight off is because i was going to get a very powerful system to start off, on that would last a good 7 years at least, and then when i have more experience at PC building and have done some very thorough research into water cooling, then i shall do it.

Also have you considered buying one of the 8Pack systems ? All the hard work is done for you if you want a custom loop.

I want to build it myself

Do a custom loop now then or you might never get the chance again :D Seriously though I wouldn't buy an £800 case until you know for definate you are going to go full on water cooling. A cheaper case for an AIO and single gpu makes more sense imo in the short term. Also a few years down the line there will be bigger and better cases available.

With that sort of budget you could go all SSD for the storage. An NVMe SSD is still a bit of a luxury but if you are going all out.

Widescreen 34" Monitor should be awesome to game on. A single GTX 1080 ti will also run it better than a 4K screen.

I went Ryzen over Intel as the extra cores are nice to have. There won't be a huge difference at this resolution.

Ram might run at 2933MHz but there is a BIOS update due that will hopefully iron out the Ram issues.

Storage wise, i am doing the 1TB for gaming and the 3TB for my work, pictures videos etc. The SSD is for special games that i want to have slightly faster load speeds and the OS.

Yeah thats quit a bit of storage unless your planning on downloading at lot of 4k videos. I think the build you have is great, will last quite a bit but i would wait for X-Kaby-Lake to released.

I know what you mean about the X Kaby Lake series to be released, but after thinking it through, they may just be the same price or more than the current X99s. Also, i would have to wait for August time to come, and frankly that would make the PC redundant as i want to use it over the Summer Holidays.
