8GB of RAM is plenty for almost any game. I think it is referring to total RAM in your system and not just the RAM dedicated to that one game. Also the more RAM you have doesn't effect your FPS. As long as you are not maxing out your 8GB no FPS loss should happen.

Okay, so I'm running a budget gaming PC and only have 8GB of RAM currently, and going through places like Game Debate, I've noticed that most game's minimum requirement is 8GB of RAM, however, even though I have 8GB of RAM, that doesn't mean I'll be able to dedicate all of that RAM to that one game at any moment in time right? And if that is correct, what is the maximum I could dedicate to games? If I don't meet RAM minimums for games, can I still play the game but without good or smooth FPS? Thanks in advance for helping out!

8Gbs is a little low now days. I can easily fill 11Gbs with tabs and or light multi tasking

Yeah, but if you are just running one game 8GB of RAM is usually enough. If you have 50 tabs open and you are playing a game then sure you will need more.

It's advised for the two modules to be equal, yes but you wouldn't break your system if they weren't. It would just run at the lowest speed between the two. But for stability reasons it is better to make them the same.

What would be better? Using a newer 8GB RAM stick alone or pair it with an old 2GB to make 10GB for more RAM but risk speeds?

I recommend the same speed and timings but everything else like brand, color and size can be mix-mached

You can mix RAM, but they will all run at the lowest speed and each channel will run at the lowest CAS for that channel.

RAM is pretty cheap, can ya afford another 8GB stick? You might save yourself a headache by NOT pairing those two together. Would it work? Probably, but play it safe; I'd scrounge together thirty bucks and get a second 8GB stick.

Eh, you're right, I could get the exact same 8GB ram module for $20 on Amazon and probably sleep better, thanks for all the help!
