My dad's prebuilt HP is having some issues lately. Sometimes when the PC is powered on, it will beep and shows something like 'ambient temperature over limit, system in low power state'. After that, the case fan will start to spin up very fast like a jet engine. After a while, the fan will slow down and become silent (still audible but not too loud)
This issue occurs randomly. I'm not sure what the cause is so I need help from you guys. Anyone?

Take out the CPU cooler and see if the thermal paste is gone... if that is not the problem, then check if the cooler itself is loose.

Are you sure it's ambient? I've never heard of a PC not booting because it's too hot in the room.

I would crack it open and check things out, my guess is maybe the CPU is spiking too high right on bootup because the fan on the heatsink is taking a while to initiate (possibly dying) and it makes the case fan go insane until that one starts spinning.

Sorry but I think it's the CPU fan (located outside like case fan which confused me)

Oh okay. Well then it does sound like your best bet is to reseat the cooler and replace thermal paste and see if that helps.

@Majestic @Spork829 @Abdul201588 One thing weird enough is, when I tried to launch Dota 2 (yeah it's not a gaming machine, only an old Pentium with iGPU), the temps are fine (below 60) and the CPU fan is not too loud.

Well you said the issue normally occurs on bootup right? So I would maybe try and get into the BIOS if you can, and see if there's a temp reading there.

Yeah. Okay, I can't do it now, my dad is using it right now...(and he will probably scold me for disturbing him)

Well it can wait, but I would stress to him that it's important you look at it at some point.
