Hello, I'm putting together a photo editing rig and since it's not for me there's a couple of things that have no clue about and I thought this might be the place to get some more info.

First off the budget will be about 2000$-2500$ without the display.

* As far as I understand I won't need a lot of graphics power but in order to achieve 10-bit color depth I would need a work-station grade GPU, is that correct and if so is it worth the extra expense?

* Should I rather go for a 4770k or an older generation 6-core i7?

* What do you think would be better: dual RAID0 SSDs or one PCIe SSD as main drive (or are both just overkill)?

No render time included. The most time consuming thing is probably stitching which can take up to 30 mins. I think, however I don't know how well photoshop can exploit multiple cores... I suppose i need to do some research on photoshop then.

Thanks for the answers.

I'd still need an answer to my first question though because if I don't need a work-station grade GPU i'll probably go with an i7 Ivy-Bridge-E / X79 build

Yup that's what I'll do:

-4930k

-Thinking of the ASUS Rampage IV Extreme

-32gb RAM  (probably Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133)

-Quadro 600k

(Not quite decided about the rest yet)

argh. get a gtx 780 or something... I bet you will play same games too

I do play games but this rig isn't for me (that's why I don't know very much about the requirements of photoshop).

The reason why I'm thinking of an RoG MoBo is because I think it'll do a little better on the overclocking side of things and it's not that much of a price difference to the Asus X79-deluxe.

And yeah I'm an Asus fanboy.
