,Sorry if this has been posted before! I was offered an RX 480 8GB for $180 from someone, and given that RX Vega is just around the corner I was just looking for opinions whether I should take this offer or continue to wait for Vega. Either way, I'd only be 1080p gaming and won't have a lot of time to game since I am a University student, so I'd probably purchase the lowest end Vega if I did wait if the price is right.

Reference RX 480 or Custom? If Custom, which one? There are good ones, there are very loud ones :P

But still, 180 is a pretty good price. Vega won't be below 350~ for sure.

For 1080p, a RX 480 is more than fine. As long it's 60 Hz, and you aim for 60 fps~ with V-Sync.

If you have 120/144 Hz, i would get vega.

A reference RX 480. The XFX Model with a backplate to be specific. I'm trying to a build an ITX system which is why I'm opting for a blower-style card. I was going to purchase a 144hz Freesync monitor after I finish my build mainly for CS:GO, but I don't really care for 144hz for other games unless it's a competitive FPS game.

Will struggle at modern AAA titles.

But Price/performance is okay. Might go down to 170 tho, since it's used + only reference.

I was thinking the same, but the guy I may potentially purchase it from seems to be quite firm with the price. :\ You think 180 is okay for a reference model?

Depends.. What are the New prices in your country?

If you can get a new Reference / Custom for 199, then... it's not a good price.

If you would save yourself 50 bucks, you might go for it :)

I think in the U.S. at least, RX 480 4GB reference models were going for around 200 and 8GB were around 230. But those were new ones. But, it's also harder to find reference models since they don't seem to be selling many of them since the release of the RX 580.

Vega will be competing in the high end only . chances are their won't be a 200-ish dollar vega part.

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

I'm personally willing to spend around ~300 if it's that much of a performance bump over an RX 480 and is similar to a 1070. Just don't want a 1070 because I'm aiming for Freesync. But of course, spending less is always better which is why I'm considering a 480 :)
