mATX or ATX?????

Go to solution Solved by HKZeroFive,

If you're looking for something similar to the Gigabyte Aorus GA-Z270X-Gaming SOC, the closest mATX motherboard in terms of looks would probably be the Gigabyte GA-Z270MX-Gaming 5.

I am going to be building a new pc:

GPU: 1080 ti (FE (I am water cooling))

CPU: i7-7700k

MOBO??? I was thinking: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128995&cm_re=Gigabyte_Z270X_SOC-_-13-128-995-_-Product

CASE: Fractal S for ATX or Fractal S nano mATX
PSU: seasonic 650W titanium
RAM: Gskill 4x8GB (32gb)
STORAGE: 2x 500GB HDD(IDK?) , 1TB SSD (gaming) , 1 250GB SSD(STUFF), 1 256 M.2 SSD (booting/systems)

I really don't need a ATX board, I won't have 2 GPU's ever. Plus I heard that mATX is better for just a single GPU and CPU

I am looking for a good OC mobo with m.2 slots 4x ram slots and under $300

please link me to one thanks :D

I would also like to not that I am water cooling and need at least  a total of 480mm of rad space in my  case

I don't get it why would be mATX better for single CPU and GPU, than normal ATX.

Too much confusion for my brains right now.

I am not sure why I said that actually i'm an autist , i heard that mATX had better power distribution and better PCI slots; which is a oblivious given since there is only going to be one 16x slot

Not sure where you heard that, sounds very off. I don't agree.

If you're building in a full sized tower, mid tower, or anything that fits a full ATX board you should get it.

Smaller formfactors like mATX and mITX are made for their respective sized chassis.

And don't get me wrong, you can put a mITX board in a 900D and it'll look funny as shit:
900d-mitx-installation.jpg

But going with a smaller board wont really give you a benefit unless you feel like the extra headroom or more plugins for different stuff is useless.

"i heard that mATX had better power distribution and better PCI slots; which is a oblivious given since there is only going to be one 16x slot"

I can assure you, a 16x slot will work JUST as fine on an ATX sized board, and any other that has a 16x.

Smaller wont mean that power distribution improves, in that case all enthusiast would build with mITX boards becuase "it only has ONE PCI-e slot, must be better"

Which doesn't make much sense :)

Either what I just said, or I might be completely wrong. Someone correct me if I am please

smaller  isn't necessarily better. I appreciate the small computer movement. You use it for lan parties or  carry the sucker around.

Mine sits on a desk and it's not going anywhere. A decent z270 atx board will have more just because of the size difference.

Yeah make it small if it suits you. That is a trade off for features you might want or need.

Why you need so small? Isn't that the better question?
