Just ordered a gtx 1080 ti for new pc build, selling my current build to friend!

im not sure which CPU  to get! I will be using it for gaming (obviously) and streaming!

im not interested in putting it in my current build with a fx 8350 i want to build a pc that will do WHATEVER i ask of it and do it efficiently and not break a sweat doing it!

any input will be appreciated and the cooler the cpu runs the better.

price isnt much of a factor below 600 is ideal. I was considering the 1600x, 7700K, 6800K just not sure about going with ryzen

The 1700x is going to match up well vs the 6800k and will cost quite a bit less. The mobo options would also be more affordable vs x99. Am4 also should have an upgrade path, where x99 is hitting eol status.

The extra cores aren't worth the hit to clock speed. A r7 1700x should be able to give ~ 30% clock boost with more and enough cores and threads for gaming and streaming.

Well you're comparing a 14core to an 8core. With that in mind the 8core does extremely well against it.

Personal build >  New-ish AMD main gaming setup

Not as good for gaming due to lower clock speeds though, plus that's used so it's nothing like being new. Not to mention worse upgrade path.

If you were reasonable you'd be recommending an 8 core xeon, not a 14 core one.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Plus, it is an engineering sample.... You shouldn't buy engineering samples, they have a crap ton of issues and don't work on all motherboards...

Ok, if you want the best bang for your buck ryzen 7 setup. Buy the R7 1700 and the asrock taichi (best VRM out of all the mobos and the best colour scheme imo). Pair that with atleast 3000 or 3200 mhz RAM and BOOM. You are good for atleast 3 years. And when the final AM4 cpu comes out, Upgrade to that and BOOM, another three years.

If you take a look at the single thread performance, the Ryzen beats the Xeon. For a gaming machine single threaded performance still reigns king. Thanks for providing support for my previous statement. So like I stated earlier the increased core count for this use case isn't worth the loss of clock speed.
