I'm planning an ITX build for my mother-in-law.

Uses: Word, Excel, browsing, light photo editing

Budget: under $1,000 CAD

Peripherals: need a big monitor included.  27" to 32" 1440p, VA or IPS.

Other info:  Already have a 1TB HDD, so only need a boot SSD.  Already have a PSU.  Needs to have a small ITX case (the smaller the better).

Go!

Just threw this together real quickly, so it may not be perfect, but it's a good start.

I like it!  I couldn't find the Node 202, I guess it was under HTPC cases ha!

I hate to advise an i5 but it seems to be the best option atm.

If you can wait a month or so for cheap ryzen mobs I strongly recommend you get the second list.  To keep it within budget you could drop down to a r3 cpu and IMO still get much better performance

Only problem with Ryzen is no integrated GPU, so not really a good value for this build IMO...  I wish they'd hurry up with their Ryzen APUs.  Unfortunately, waiting is not an option.  Build needs to be complete in the next one to two weeks.

IMO the benifet of the extra cores outweighs the igpu.  That's why I included the RX 550 - amd seems to be aware of the lack and is suplying an excellent low power, cheap gpu.  It will outperform the i5 in 3 very way :/
