Ashes of Creation (MMO) Kickstarter Funded $750k in 12 hrs

Rupe

Edit: Just noticed this has already been posted about, whoops

The currently in development MMO Ashes of Creation reached its Kickstarter goal of $750,000 in under 12 hours and is currently sitting at just over $1 million.

I don't know if anyone else is paying attention to this MMO but it looks really promising. The main idea of the game is based around a node system where areas of the world will be assigned a node and when you do activities in that area (gathering materials, fighting mobs) the node will level up. Once the node hits level 1 a small camp will form in the area. The more the node levels up the larger this will grow until its a metropolis. For more information I would recommend watching Part 1 and Part 2 of Intrepid Studios series on their game.

What are your guys thoughts on the game. Do you think it looks promising. Concerned it will never see the light of day as with many Kickstarter projects?

No its not. Although it is being made with Unreal Engine 4 so should look pretty.

Given this game will take probably another 3 years till launch you got some time to finish your games :P

I really enjoyed Skyrim, would defiantly recommend getting into it. That is the thing with MMOs, between playing an MMO and a full time job you often don't find much time for other games. They are time sinks

From what I've seen, crowdfunded video games are a lot more likely to deliver than physical items (especially tech inventions). There are no supply chains, shipping, material costs or anything like that, just a couple of 1's and 0's on a hard disk.

Joking aside kickstarters that never launch and steam early access games that are forever beta are a growing problem. For example im absolutely loving Player Unknown Battlegrounds right now but still in the back of my mind I can't help but think its never going to leave early access. Early access has become at excuse to sell a buggy/incomplete game. PUB has 1 map and terrible optimisation atm and I feel like after raking in the money it could stop dev any time and walk away with millions. (great idea and great game though).

EDIT:

Btw Ashes of creation looks cool so I grabbed early bird settler pledge. Lets see how this one pans out.

Says expected delivery "Dec 2018". 1.5 years isn't that far out. I know a little about deving a game, so it will probably be pushed back to sometime in 2019.

A good rule is always to double :P Seriously though I will eat my left sock if it is out that early

Edit: They have just confirmed that they aim for their first Alpha Phase 1 Dec 2018 at the latest not launch. So we can expect the game significantly later than that.

I am really enjoying PUBG and bought it because I thought the current product they are offering is worth the price. I would be disappointed if they packed up and left with their earnings but I got a product out of it and they would almost certainly sell it to someone who would maintain servers and continue development if this was the case.

With Kickstarter on the other hand this is not the case and you have to be prepared to lose any money you put into a Kickstarter. Given the history of Kickstarter it is certainly not uncommon for a Kickstarter to fail and therefore one should invest wisely.

Having said that the concept of Ashes of Creation sounds awesome to me so I'm remaining optimistic

I'm interested in this game, but I just hope UE4 will be good enough to utilise all CPU cores and GPU power.

Last thing we need is another MMORPG that will have unstable FPS when a lot of things are happening.

Hopefully DX12 or Vulkan support?

Combat looks kinda slow and borring, but it's not completed yet, so I will try not to judge too much.

Node system ... not sure how does that even work. Lets say 20 players are around that node. 10 of them are afk, 5 of them are grinding mobs solo, and there is group of 5 players in party grinding together. Will that node upgrade to Town for all those 20 players? Or only for those 5 in party that were doing the most things? I'm a bit confused about this ...

So game will be released in december 2018 ... players will start at the same spot most likely and the first node will get to max level instantly.

So when new players start playing this game lets say in Januray 2019, they will already see that node being maxed out?

Will they optimise it for Ryzen, since it's still in development and they can test it a bit?

Pay to win?

So many questions xD

You should paste this on the kickstarter campaign and see if you get an answer/make devs aware

We should not get ahead of ourselves. This game is very early development and the devs probably won't even know the answers to specific questions relating to the functionality of how being in a group works. What I can speculate is that the more you put into a node the more benefits you will personally get, perhaps from the city. Such as being able to buy a house. People will invest time and resource into a node so they have something to lose if anything happens to their city either from other players or PvE events.

The devs have said there are 5 different spawn locations depending on the race you picked.

There just won't be answers to many questions as the game is still early development. But im sure the devs have/will consider everything very carefully.

Only people who donated to this can post comment there, so I guess we will just have to wait for their official forum to be released so we can start spamming ideas and questions.

Remember guys they have been developing this game for over 16 months BEFORE they put up kickstarter.  They said they wanted to show off some of the games features and stuff for people to take a look at before they pledged any money to them. This is a good sign they are not con artists. It dont means things cant go wrong but atm its looking very good.

I went for the Founder Pack. 150 dollars. Im not going to pledge more than that since im one of these people which dont really like kickstarter lol. But i feel if they can get the npc/character movement right and the combat system feels fun and smooth. I think this game will be very good.

And since its Per Per Month and NOT P2W OR F2P that suits me. Less kids playing and more adults clans etc. I want it to feel like WOW vanilla all them years ago. I can only hope.
