I got just a GTX 980ti I had a issue with ek blocks not touching the ram chips on the 970. should I skip the EK and go the koolance route. The metal is taller on the koolance block then on the EK I don.t mind paying more for better quality. Koolance on the left EK on the right Here is the card.

Did they provide the wrong thermal pads or something?  There shouldn't be any issue with the block contacting the vram chips,  if that is the case EK has good customer support and they'll rectify the issue.  I wouldn't avoid EK's blocks for quality reasons, they're known for being one of the best

Not sure how a 970 has anything to do with a 980. Sounds like either a bad batch or install. Pretty easy to notice when putting it on, not like the vram needs cooling anyway. Half of the 970 vram is on the back.

I think there may have been a retailer error involved there.  I wouldn't shy away from EK from that experience.  Do make 100% sure that you have the exact right block for the card though.  Even a single difference can throw everything off.
