network throtling?

I have attached my speedtest.net score (i use frontier)

I am across the house from my router so i have run a hardwire. when i download games from steam i am usually stuck at 7 mb/s my system itself has no bottlenecks (all runing at 6gb/s [i am downloading to a seagate barracuda 3tb also running at 6gb/s]) my usage in task manager will reach 50mb/s while downloading and i always make sure nothing else is using up the bandwidth. I am wondering where all of my bandwidth is going if not to steam or where there may be a bottleneck.

What network equipment are you using? (Router, modem, switches, etc.)

Check in steam settings under downloads and make sure the box that displays it in Bits per second is checked.

by default Steam uses MB/s not Mb/s.

1MB = 8Mb

So 7MB/s = 56Mb/s

Steam shows downloads in Megabytes per second by default. Speedtest and network usage monitors will mostly use Megabits per second. 

 

57.7Mbps = around 7.2MB/s. You're not losing any bandwidth, programs are just using different units.

Oshino Shinobu is on to something here. Double check the programs, they may be reading two different measurements. A Megabit (MB) is 1/8 of a Megabyte (Mb).

 

1MB = 1/8Mb or 0.125Mb

 

So using a Google converter tool, (love those things) 57.77Mb/s comes to 7.22125MB/s.

I assume it's a typo, but your units are the wrong way round there. Megabit is Mb and Megabyte is MB. So 1Mb = 1/8MB or 0.125MB
