A keyboard and mouse are examples of hardware?

That's what exams are about, writing what the teacher wants to see.

Hardware - physical entities

Firmware - programs embedded in hardware for the operation thereof

Software - programs that solve user problems

Vaporware - hardware, firmware, or software that exists only in the minds of marketing types.

Occasionally instructors are correct. :)

I gotta disagree, in terms of computers I'd say hardware is anything physical that makes up the entire computer system, to which a mouse and keyboard are required while a MIDI interface or headphones aren't. Even then I'd almost be tempted to call them hardware.

And you'd be right to call them hardware. Any physical entity that is part of a computer system is hardware.
