Hi,

I started a topic yesterday about whether I should get a "T" or a "non-T" version of my next Intel CPU, which eventually became whether I should get a higher-end Haswell CPU or upgrade to Skylake. Here are my current specs :

- i3 4130

- 8GB of RAM

- GTX 750 2GB

- 250GB SSD

- 1TB HDD

This PC is 3 years old and my needs have slightly evolved since then. 8GB of RAM is no longer enough for me, and I'd like a more powerful CPU. I also need a second HDD, and a new GPU later. Price and power consumption are a big concern for me. I'm considering getting just a Haswell core i5 like the 4460, which would cost the same as getting a Skylake i3 and new RAM sticks. I'd still need to buy a new motherboard though because the one I'm currently using has only two slots, and it also has a few issues.

On the other hand, I saw that the Pentium G4560 could be a good alternative since it still performs better than my current core i3.

I guess I could also wait to see what Ryzen 3 has to offer, but I'm pretty sure Intel will have an answer for that, so we could see price drops or new products.

Anyway, what do you suggest?

Thanks

Get second CPUs like i7 or Xeon as suggested by @Droidbot. Add more RAM if can.

IMO, don't change the GPU first. Wait for newer GPUs like Vega and Volta.

Best case scenario, upgrade to a new platform like Ryzen and Kaby Lake

The point is I would still need a new motherboard since mine only has 2 slots.

2 RAM slots?  I'd say either get r3 or a xeon and 16GB (2*8) for the mobo.  That or a mobo + CPU kit that comes with 2*4gb already and has two vacant slots. You could probably get an i7, mobo and RAM for the same price as an r3 CPU, memory and new RAM

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious
