5.1 Surround sound

Hi there. I just bought a 5.1 surround sound setup. but when i press surround mode on my amplifier it sound like the center speaker is swallowing all the sound ? almost all sound comes only from center speaker.

But when i press just normal 2.1 Stereo mode the sound is fine. but i want surround

what are you trying to play? What receiver?

You need to use a true surround interface, like digital audio (optical or coaxial)

Well im watching move trailers etc to test it out. The amp im using is Technics SA-EX300, its an old amp but it got surround ability ?

The center channel is mostly used in surround sound. The four other speakers generally make whizzing noises or explosions or helps create a sense of panning when an object is moving across the screen. Sometimes it helps set ambiance. But dialog is pretty much 99% out of the center channel.

I just looked up the details on your receiver. It's a stereo input and surround sound output through digital wizardry. It never worked right. Unfortunately I have to say yes, it is normal for the receiver you're using.

 

You can find a reasonably used, modern receiver with HDMI for around $100-$150. You will likely hear a lot more from your surrounds when watching DVDs, blu-rays or streaming

This, or a new Pyle one (not sure about quality?) for $150 or a H/K, Onkyo, or Yamaha for $200

Well im quite in the middle of moving so. Could you please suggest a decent amplifier that is capable to output good surround ? 5.1 is more than good enough for me. price range is around 100-200$
