I've just returned from vacation to log on to my computer and be greeted by that wonderful red X signifying a lose of internet. Windows troubleshooter states their is no driver so when I went to attempt and instal the driver (Killer Network driver from MSI website) I'm greeted with another message stating I must have proper killer hardware installed. I'm a bit frazzled as it worked just fine before I left but ceases to operate upon my return. I'm running my laptop off the same cable so it's either my mother board or something software related.

Any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated. Is my mobo in need of a replacement? System specs below:

MSI Z97 Gaming 5

i5-4690K

8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport

250gb Samsung Evo

1TB WD Blue

GTX-770

Thanks,

Sam

Ya I hate killer NIC and their drivers. I would try to manually install the drivers, try and google how. If you are still having issues in 5 hours PM me and I can try and walk you though some stuff after work.

What windows ?

Just open Device manager, delete the Network driver, reboot computer, windows will install a generic network driver that works.

It must be there. Otherwise just reboot and windows should instlal it by default.

If not, and not there in the device menu, weird.. Maybe another issue or virus issue or not sure, would need to have the computer in front of me to repair. In worst case just do a back up, format, and put back up back and GG. Takes like 1-2 hours depending on the back up size.

See picture below for device management. ( I have many drivers due to the fact I have virtual machine and +++ but only the red one is the common internet driver per example )

I definitely don't have that in my device manager. I did some further investigation in the bios and it states their is no eithernet connection. Is my mobo simply fried?

When you plug in an ethernet cable do you have any lights on your NIC?

Are you familiar with instlaling windows ?

Do a back up, format, reinstall windows and drivers

This will erase all bad configuration/malware/virus etc...

Start from new.
