Hello!

So I'm looking for a new harddrive, when I was looking at toshiba 3TB [Toshiba 3TB 7200rpm 64MB]

When I found out that it was 27db loud! Now for me, that seems super loud. But I dont know much about harddrives, is this normal? Is it loud? How loud do seagates get?

Not too loud. I'd consider going with a WD Blue or WD Green (the 2TB and higher have been folded into the WD Blue line).

Why toshiba out of al things, if its to save cost, just add in a little more money and get a drive from a more reliable brand, idk something like Seagate or WD,

They are not in my budget atm. It's between this 3TB toshiba vs 2TB seagate that is faster.

HDD are loud due to the motor it features. You need to check reviews to know in advance how loud the drive are.

If memory serves correct, less platters the drive has, the faster the drive is ready as the motor can reach its max speed to operate faster due to the reduce weight, and also the quieter the drive is.

I thought seagate had the worst reputation? I am considering between this toshiba and a 2TB seagate. I dont know which one to get tho, a slitghly faster 2TB seagate or a bigger toshiba 3TB one. (They cost the same)

If I could I would get a 2TB SSD, trust me. Unfortently I dont have that kind of money.

Seagate and Wd to me are the most reliable to be honest, wd has a bit better performance in my opinion, but thats just what i have seen, in anycase the whole seagate unreliability thing is not really true, they last about the same time as WD ,  in my opinion, go with the Seagate

Haven't had much luck with Toshiba, but I'd try them out if the price is the same.

should be roughly the same, their data sheets say 2.6 bel sound power ( 26db)  , so yeah about the same

So you would pick the bigger space over seagates faster HDD?

You would have to check reviews and benchmarks to find the performance nuances of each drive, but I would usually take a larger drive that I can use vs a smaller, faster drive that would be filled quickly.

unless it's going to be an external HDD next to you on the desk the sound will be drowned out by fans and muffled by the case.

Do you want to make join the toshiba vs seagate discussion? Which one should I buy? (Names above)

Reputations don't affect the product. Seagate and Toshiba both have good drives. They wouldn't be in business if they weren't.

A link to the drives you're referring to or more specific model names would help. From experience, most 3TB Toshiba drives are louder than a 2TB Barracuda.
