xoticpc and Malibal laptop differences

Thanks for your reply, really appreciate it, no matter how much research I do it is never enough...

I've taken a look at ObsidianPC and I found that the P870KM1-G on Obsidian does not offer the option

to pick 1070, only 1070 SLI, I don't need anything above 1070.

Which is weird because the P870KM1-G on Xotic pc does allow this option, however as I am from europe

i'd prefer to stick with ObsidianPC.

I've been looking at the Obsidian P775DM3-G which does offer the 1070 but I've read that the cooling on

the P775DM3 is not as strong as on P870KM1, specially for a 7700K (review link) but I am not sure if

the unit in the review comes with delided and sanded CPU...

What do you recommend me to do... maybe wait a bit more to get the P870KM1-G with 1080 even tough

I don't need it or get the P775DM3 and trust that sanding and delidding would do much better?

P870KM1 with single 1070N is not worth it, really. It's more expensive than the P775DM3 and 1070N/7700K without the cooling system rework that obsidian does is coolable, but with the rework it's more than fine. I'd get a P775DM3 from them if you only want that.

However, I more suggest you save for a single 1080N on the P870KM1 if you can. The 1080N is rated for a maximum power draw of 190W, compared to the 115W of the 1070N. The 1070N simply will not hold its clockspeeds under heavier loads, tending to average in the higher 1600MHz range to low 1700MHz, where the 1080N is almost guaranteed to sit above 1835MHz 24/7 temperature permitting. I generally average 1898MHz to 1860MHz during single GPU loads as temps are ALWAYS permitting in single GPU with the vapor chamber on the P870 models.

You can ignore the review link you posted, as Eurocom neither delids their processor nor repads for better effect. I.E. the GPU is about 10-20c hotter than it should be and the CPU is a whopping 30c hotter than it should be once all fixes are applied.

If you can't afford and still want the 1070N, P775DM3 and be done with it. It'll cool it just fine.

If you can afford single 1080N from OBSIDIAN-PC, then I suggest that with the 7700K and ask them for the vapor chamber to be sure; I hope it's included in the price.

Seriously, ignore every single review of a Clevo desktop CPU unit that does not come from HIDevolution.com or OBSIDIAN-PC.com as they're from vendors that don't fix the machine.

I'm looking for an custom Clevo 870 and I'm interested in one of the 2 below:

xoticpc

malibal

I'd rather go with the one on Malibal because I can pick the keyboard layout I want (different from english),

an option I did not find on xoticpc and another reason is that Malibal has better shipment options for Europe.

Apart from this... I fail to understand Malibal's naming for the laptop models...

The model on Malibal is: LX 870DM

while the one on xoticpc is: P870KM1-G

Looking at the official clevo laptop models naming I can indeed find in the list the P870KM1-G

but not the LX 870DM, in fact, there is not even 870DM listed.

Searching for more about this, I've found a review here. It seems that the 870DM uses Z170 chipset.

While the 870KM1 uses Z270, info here. Am I missing something?

1. Why would Malibal use Z170 chipset with the 7700k? I mean its possible but, why arent they using Z270?

2. Whats wrong with the LX before 870DM and why isnt 870DM listed in the official Clevo website? Is it outdated?

3. Has anyone managed to get custom layout from xoticpc? The only "international" option seems to be: Power Cords.

IMHO you should go with Hidevolution if you can, this is due to them offering prema mod which will allow the gpu's to not be power throttled like normal gaming laptops. Also they offer free liquid metal and (different heatsink layout?) for better cooling. http://www.hidevolution.com/evoc-p870km1-dual-gtx-1080.html

If you're buying a P870KM1, you should only buy it from two places:

- HIDevolution (US, Canada, non-european & non-NA countries).

- OBSIDIAN-PC (Europe, UK, asia, etc countries).

First off, about Malibal, they're probably the worst place to buy from. They have censored negativity on the notebookreview forums in the past and banned users from their website who had good warranties still, and attacked people for not basically praising them left and right. They're a terrible place to buy from. They might have changed, but I won't risk it... it's their own fault. Don't buy from them, for any reason whatsoever. Please.

Second, the reason the Z170 chipset is being used on Malibal's machine, is because it is a P870DM3. This is Z170, and as of now, an end of life model.

The one from XoticPC is the P870KM1 which has a third M.2 slot that is Optane ready, and can only be used with a NVMe drive. Aside from that and the Z270 chipset, there is no difference between it and the P870DM3.

But seriously, if you're in UK/Europe/etc then get the machine from OBSIDIAN-PC. If single GPU I suggest the vapor chamber heatsink and a single 1080N. I suggest single 1080N over 1070N SLI. And sign up on the notebook review forums if buying from OBSIDIAN-PC so you can get your voucher for a Prema mod when it launches. You can't get it directly from them, but you'll want it.

Do note, if buying from OBSIDIAN and not in the EU, subtract 23% from their prices, as their prices include EU tax.

If buying from HID, you should get an e-mail about the Prema mod whenever it's ready.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

The delidding on that should be enough as long as you're not trying for 5ghz, get a liquid metal option as well since that will help cpu temps a lot as well.

I sent them a message and they said that the cooling on the 775 is improved enough by them, liquid metal TIM, polish and lap, etc... it is more than enough to cool both the cpu and gpu. Thanks for your reply, I'll be going with the 775, its also a bit smaller :D
