Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4 Size Questions

Cuniac
Go to solution Solved by applebook,

I know that Noctua specifies 165mm for clearance, but the heatsink is actually 160mm:

Heatsink Dimensions 160.00 x 150.00 x 135.00mm (https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAADY5BC1607)

It turns out that 330R's clearance specs might be incorrect. Dustin from Corsair says that he measured 170mm: http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=130450

Apparently, the D15 will fit even with normal profile RAM: http://www.conseil-config.com/2015/test-corsair-carbide-330r-blackout-edition/

I guess it is 170mm after all.

I am considering getting the Noctua NH-D15 SE-AM4 for my new Ryzen build but because this cooler is so big does anyone know if I have to use low profile RAM? Also if anyone would happen to know if it would fit in the Corsair Carbide Series 330R Quiet Mid-Tower Case?

The 330R is around 5mm too slim to support the D15's fan if it needs to be moved up to accommodate regular height RAM.

The D15 needs 165mm of clearance if the fan is moved up, but the 330R has just 160mm.

You could use the D15 with a single fan and move the other to the exhaust.

Noctua themselves say the NH-D15 allows 32mm of room over the DIMM slots. They also say the protruding fan can be shifted upwards 5mm for extra clearance.

They also say the height of the cooler is 165mm (170 if you move the front fan up).

165mm? hmm, that case is only listed for 160mm of CPU cooler clearance .i'm going to have to pick something new. Thank you for your help

The cooler is effectively 160mm tall with the fans lowered.

Pretty much all coolers are designed with standard profile RAM in mind.

Noctua specifies 160mm heatsink height and 165 with fans: http://noctua.at/en/home-product/nh-d15-se-am4/specification

This is because you will need at least 165mm if you want to fit standard height 32mm RAM underneath the front fan:
