A mobo replacement may mean that you have to call and talk to someone, a storage replacement (for me) has normally recognized the mobo and reactivated.

This is what i was talking about earlier. I consistently have to call in for hardware upgrades (SSD, and mobo), but ive never had any issues once i do. really not a huge deal imo.

Gaming build:

CPU: i7-7700k (5.0ghz, 1.312v)

GPU(s): Asus Strix 1080ti OC (~2063mhz)

Memory: 32GB (4x8) DDR4 G.Skill TridentZ RGB 3000mhz

Motherboard: Asus Prime z270-AR

PSU: Seasonic Prime Titanium 850W

Cooler: Custom water loop (420mm rad + 360mm rad)

Case: Be quiet! Dark base pro 900 (silver)
Primary storage: Samsung 960 evo m.2 SSD (500gb)

Secondary storage: Samsung 850 evo SSD (250gb)

Server build:

OS: Ubuntu server 16.04 LTS (though will probably upgrade to 17.04 for better ryzen support)

CPU: Ryzen R7 1700x

Memory: Ballistix Sport LT 16GB

Motherboard: Asrock B350 m4 pro

PSU: Corsair CX550M

Cooler: Cooler master hyper 212 evo

Storage: 2TB WD Red x1, 128gb OCZ SSD for OS

Case: HAF 932 adv

You can use your Win10 bootable (from the media creation tool) and buy a key here. https://www.kinguin.net/category/22175/windows-10-home-oem-key/

I have used this site before, just read everything and look at all the check boxes. Paul (Paul's Hardware) also uses this resource.

Great so I brought the key from here and it says it's already in use

what do I do now ?

When I upgraded my desktop I had to activate my Windows 10 key manually. Go to Run (Win Key + R) then put "slui.exe 4" and click OK. Call the number and press 1 for Windows 10 I believe and if you're calling from your smart phone you'll have the option to activate it using the website, I always do this and it seems faster for me than entering the numbers into their phone system or talking to a person. If it doesn't work, then talk to a person and let them know the situation (I always just tell them "hard drive died, new hard drive" and they activate it for me).

There is a protection option check box that tacks on an extra 5 dollars, and if selected I believe it offers an avenue for a refund.I have not had that issue (so far) with that site, so I haven't personally tried to get refunded. I'm sorry if I directed you to a bad experience, but, as I said, I have yet to have that problem myself. :(

This was where I first learned about the site and I have bought two working keys from there myself. Just as a reference for why I recommended it. Again, I am sorry if you end up losing money over it. (The video says $20, but it is just over a year old)

This is the support page on the Kinguin site. Click on Windows Activation and follow the steps. Make sure that if you attempt to make some kind of claim with them that you have the screen shots they asked for. I have not gone through this process before with Kinguin so I can't direct you past this. https://www.kinguin.net/helpdeskultimate/customer/newticket/
