Hey guys!

I'm new here so please be kind :)

I'm looking for a new build for a gaming setup (being a gamer for years) - being bottle-necked by many parts even tho got a brand new GPU

The build i'm currently having is really really outdated (2011-ish):

CPU: i5 2400

MB: Asus - P8P67-M

RAM: G.Skill 8GB DDR3

GPU: MSI ARMOR GTX 1080 8GB OC (bought this baby a month ago)

PW: Thermaltake TR2 600W

My friends adviced me to get a new GPU (had Radeon HD 7950) so I can play on the most modern games out there with them

My max budget would be 800$

I got a few parts on this PC so I could spare buying new ones, such as;

2 SSD's (120gb + 240gb)

1 HDD (1TB)

PW: Thermaltake TR2 600W

G.Skill 8GB DDR3

MSI ARMOR GTX 1080 8GB OC

One of my friend suggested the following specs:

CPU: i5 7600k

MB: Gigabyte GAZ270GAMING K3

RAM: HyperX FURY 16GB DDR4 2400MHz

Power Supply: Antec 600W Active PFC

Enclosure: Sharkoon BW9000-W ATX

I was being looking myself for a motherboard and I can't decide which one is better for me..

Asus STRIX B250F Gaming or MSI B250 GAMING M3

I was also being told that my GTX 1080 would go better than an i7 core rather than i5.... is this true?

Thanks in advance!

moving to another i5 wouldn't really be worth it imo, even with the generational improvements. then there's the i5s also bottlenecking gtx 1070 and stronger gpus. i'd go with an i7 for a gtx 1080, much better fit. also, get a better psu.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

What i7 and PSU would you recommend?

i7 6700k or 7700k. try EVGA G2/3/L, corsair RMx or bitfenix whisper M, whichever is cheaper.

any cheap z270 board will do. if you don't get one that supports SLI you can change the PSU to a 550w unit.

No, R7 with fast RAM is very close in performance to a 7700K but the R7 has way better lows (so smoother gameplay) and kicks butt at streaming

This build fascinating me tbh, I saw people OC the CPU to 3.7GHz so they can squeeze more out of it..

Though, say I get this CPU eventually, could I OC it to 3.7 with the default cooler?

What do you mean with "fast RAM"? Something like 3200Mhz? or?

Would either of you like to post some proof of this? You're wrong btw. An i5 isn't just going to inherently bottleneck higher end GPUs. Just a year ago, uninformed people were saying that Haswell i5's were bottlenecking GTX 970s and GTX 980s, but now all of a sudden i5s only bottleneck GTX 1080s and 1080Ti's? Bottlenecking will depend on the situation entirely. If a game is really CPU bound, then sure, an i5 could hold back a higher end GPU but it's not a huge issue, definitely not like you're both making it out to be.

Terrible cooler choice. Cryorig H7 is the same price but newer design, easier to install, performs better, and is also quieter. Also, I'd recommend Phanteks Eclipse P400(S) TG over the S340 Elite.

Ugh, Ryzen is not "more future proof". Future proofing is not a thing. Though I do agree Ryzen would be a good option for OP. H100i is a total waste of money on a Ryzen CPU though lmao. Also, A320 chipset motherboard? So that he can't overclock? That's totally pointless and renders the H100i even more useless. Nice case tho ;)

OP- I'm not going to recommend you a system because your currency is not USD. If I knew where you were buying from, that would be helpful because then I could give you a list of components you'd be able to actually order within your budget. What I would recommend though, is an R5 1600. It's going to offer similar performance in games to a current gen i5 but has 4 times as many threads so literally everything other than gaming, will be easy breezy on the R5, AND you'll get good gaming performance. A nice quality B350 chipset motherboard with 4 DIMM slots will do the job. 2x8GB DDR4 at 3000MHz or 3200MHz. You have storage sorted already, so no need to buy any HDDs/SSDs. For case, I'd recommend Phanteks Eclipse P400(S), but S340 is a fine alternative if you prefer that. Phanteks Enthoo Pro(M) are also good. That is only if your current case isn't very good, or sufficient though. You may feel no need for a new case. For PSU, you can't go wrong with EVGA GS/G2/G3 units. Stellar quality. Just make sure not to get an EVGA G1/NEX unit. SeaSonic and XFX also have great quality units. As for CPU cooler, anything from Be Quiet! or Cryorig will be a great option. Phanteks also have some great coolers. Don't buy in to the Cooler Master 212 hype. Be Quiet! coolers are listed on PCPP as having no support for AM4 currently, but that's not true, Be Quiet! will ship you an AM4 mounting bracket for free if your cooler does not come with one in the box.

So;

R5 1600

B350 motherboard

2x8GB DDR4 3000/3200MHz

Eclipse P400(S)/S340/Enthoo Pro(M)

EVGA GS/G2/G3 or anything from XFX/SeaSonic

Be Quiet!/Phanteks/Cryorig cooler.

Intel Core i7-4790k @ 4.7GHz | Asus Maximus VII Hero | NZXT Kraken X61 | 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro(Red) @ 1866MHz | 2TB Seagate Barracuda | 250GB Samsung 850-EVO | 2- way SLI Asus Strix GTX 970's @ 1500MHz | EVGA 750W G2 | NZXT H440(black/red) | 3x120mm Sharkoon Shark Blade fans(red) | 3x140mm Be Quiet!

So;

R5 1600

B350 motherboard

2x8GB DDR4 3000/3200MHz

Eclipse P400(S)/S340/Enthoo Pro(M)

EVGA GS/G2/G3 or anything from XFX/SeaSonic

Be Quiet!/Phanteks/Cryorig cooler.

I mentioned I'm from Israel if it helps..

1) I can afford the Ryzen 7 (1700), though does it worths the money against the R5?

2) Why do you suggest 3000/3200MHz? is there a significant difference between them and the 2400s? (i'm newb at this)

3) I don't have any Phanteks cases or Be Quiet!/Cryorig in my country...

P.S mind making a pcpartpicker build for me please? :) [just for the order so I can compare it to my place]

P.S 2, will it run VMWare and how much vms can I run without lag? (I use this for learning mostly so.. dunno if compatible)

P.S 3 How do you know if a MB can OC or not?

1) For gaming, no, absolutely not. Do not get an R7. The money would be better spent elsewhere.

2) Yes, there's a fairly significant difference. Ryzen likes faster RAM. I wouldn't use anything slower than 2666MHz with Ryzen. 3000/3200MHz is the sweet spot from what I've seen.

3) Coolers, not cases. I don't know of any places in Israel to buy PC components. Could you maybe link me a site you'll be buying from and give me your budget in the currency that site uses and I'll see if I can't throw something together for you?

PS1) Itd be pretty useless the. I'd rather make a list for you on a site that you'll be able to buy from, that way it'll be a list better suited for your specific needs and situation.

PS2) I have little experience with this so I'm probably the worst person to ask about it, but yes you will be able to run it with an R5 CPU. I find it hard to believe i5s would be better than their Ryzen counterpart for this as well, so an R5 should be a great choice.

PS3) For Intel you need Z chipset, so Z87/Z97 for Haswell(Refresh) and Z170/Z270 for Skylake/Kaby Lake. For Ryzen(AM4), B350 and X370 chipset motherboards support overclocking. A320 are the lowest of low end for Ryzen(AM4) motherboards, and those do not support overclocking. A nice B350 or entry level X370 motherboard is the best choice for a Ryzen 5 CPU IMO.

Can you please reference me a video comparison between the R5 and R7? How come R7 can't beat R5 at gaming? (should be better no?)

Dunno if you know Hebrew or even got this language on your pc.. but here you go: http://ksp.co.il/index.php?uin=16015&select=.269..396..202.#complist (a build i made)

How is this? I think that should be around your budget, no? Wasn't quite able to get a 6 core Ryzen CPU in, or a 480/580 but this is still a nice little system. Case and PSU are fairly cheap but still good. R5 1400 is 4C/8T. If you can spend the extra for an R5 1600, you should, but it's not necessary. I included an RX 570, which is still a killer GPU for 1080p. I'd spring a little for a 480/580 if possible, but again, not necessary at all.

HDD, if needed;

http://ksp.co.il/?uin=37950&select=.1033..145.

I'd get the SSD though and add an HDD later, or try to find an HDD around your house you could use maybe? If you don't have any HDD(s) you can re-use and the SSD isn't going to be enough storage to last you, then you can just get the HDD instead of the SSD and add an SSD later, but it's much easier to get the SSD first.

If you really need to save some money, you can get a lower end GPU. You should be able to get a GTX 1050 for about 650 shekels, or a 1050Ti for about 800 shekels. The 470/570 is definitely worth the extra 100 shekels over a 1050Ti, but if you have to save some money, that's an easy way to do so.

A Ryzen will be better for VMs, as you have more cores to share.
