Looking for new GPU

Mrspicy2k

Looking to possibly upgrade my gpu, but I'm having trouble deciding if an upgrade is worth it, and if so, to what card?

Current Specs

CPU: 4790k

GPU: MSI r9 390 8gb

RAM: 16 gb DDR3

one 1440p monitor and one 1080p

I'd wait for vega/volta right now if you're looking at the higher end of things.

Personal build >  New-ish AMD main gaming setup

PLEASE QUOTE OR @ ME FOR A RESPONSE xD

I'd tell him to wait, but I can't remember the last time AMD's hype train hasn't derailed.

I don't think VEGA is that close, seeing that AMD also updated their lineup recently.

To OP: What performance do you want to get in terms of fps, with what kind of settings (medium? high? ultra?) and at which of those screens?

I heard rumors saying VOLTA architecture will arrive Q3 2017. If you can afford to wait, I recommend, but if you really don't want, buy a 1060 or 1070. Now I know that the 1060 is not the perfect for high-end gaming, but will get you through every game in 1080 and some E-sport titles on 1440p. I assume you won't game in multi-window because of the resolution differences.
The reason I recommend the cheaper card if you want a new card now, is that you will have leftover money to buy a volta later, and they sell realy well.
However, If you don't really care what will to come, than buy a 1070 or even a 1080, if you wan't to upgrade your monitors as well.

I have a 1060 and it's fine for 1440p. You may have to turn down some settings. I typically turn them down even more since I enjoy the higher frame rate more (144hz monitor)

For OP: I wouldn't upgrade from 390. Wait for the new generations from both NoVideo and AyyMD
