Depends on games and resolution. I5 is on it's way as a recommend for new builds and upgrades, but there no real reason to upgrade from one immediately - games are starting to use the extra threads of the i7 and ryzen, but its only like 20?

If you want to upgrade and have some budget you could grab a used 4790k and a maybe a 580 if you're on a 1080P, that would be a nice upgrade and not too harsh on your wallet

I think your build is still good. No need to upgrade yet imho. Why do you consider upgrading in the first place if I may ask? If it is due to you getting a new monitor and wanting to play games at 4k resolution, then getting a new gpu should be enough, but for 1080p gaming your 970 is more than enough. :)
