Hey,

I am not getting the fps I believe I should be getting with a 1080, and I'm kind of at a loss here. I think it might be a CPU bottleneck (My CPU is a few years old), but I'd like to get some second opinions before I go out and drop money on a new CPU and motherboard.

Here some game I am seeing dips/lower fps in:

Fallout 4: Dips to about 45 in many areas. I use about medium-high settings, but changing this doesn't do all that much.

Overwatch: I play on basically the lowest settings at 1080p and sit around 120.

Playeruknown's Battlegrounds: I constantly drop to 20 fps and it seems to just be me (I play with people who get a constant 60-80).

CSGO: I can usually stay around 160-200 fps, but I play on 4:3 at lowest settings and this drop drastically when I go to 1080p.

These are my system specs from dxdiag:

Yeah... An fx 8350 would HEAVILY bottleneck a 1080. Hell, it might even bottleneck a 1060 or 480/580!

I'd suggest getting that upgraded to a 1600 or 7700k depending on your budget.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

It will, it is basically equivalent to an i3.

Benchmarks showing high FPS differences will show that newer CPUs are better, but as with all games and high FPS, when the FPS goes down to normal levels in real-world scenarios, like using an RX480 or GTX 1070 on modern games at 1080p, where the FPS is lower than 100, the margin gets much lower, to the point that it doesn't matter much.
