no, RAM will be unstable outside the OS too

doing it inside the OS could potentially:

  • fuck with the system files
  • fuck with the drive partition
  • fuck with other files

why!?

I could understand this as a stress test.  I use a Passmark tool called Burn-In-Test and set it to run the CPU, RAM (system and video), GPU and HDD at 100% in order to stress the system for instability.  I could see this serving a similar purpose, albeit a redundant one for me.
