College Laptop

Hey guys, so my cousin is going to college for engineering and he needs a laptop. Specs will have to be i7 6th/7th gen, at least 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD and integrated NVIDIA graphics all for less that $2,000. What should he get?

I would highly recommenced looking at the surface book. I find that the pen input is great for taking notes in class, the battery lasts me through the day and it's very portable. Since he is a student he can get the 256Gb dGPU i7 model for $1900

Lenovo if more work oriented, MSI if more gaming oriented, in my opinion...

Can't go wrong with a ThinkPad. The T and P are my favorites from that lineup, and not just because I enjoy saying those two letters in that order.

Yes indeed.  I typed a 3000 word essay yesterday with my Thinkpad X1 Carbon.  They keyboards are great.  You should go for a Thinkpad unless you will be gaming a lot.

If you buy a refurb X230, you'd have enough money left over for a pretty potent desktop that'll easily outperform a entry-gaming laptop that'll cost as much as both machines.
