Hi all,

Just built a new PC.

Running:

- Ryzen 5 1600;

- 8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4 2400mhz

- MSI B350 Tomahawk

Looking for a GPU to replace my GTX 770... Did not want to go over 300 euros (which is the price of the 1060 6GB). Very confused which direction to go, if the new AMD RX 500 cards are the way, if the GTX 1060, or even something older in the GTX 900 series would be better.

Thanks!

I've heard of Vega.. but don't really comprehend it. Is it ONE new GPU or is it a line/series of GPU's?

Also, does it fall within that budget? (i presume that if its a gpu series they will have higher and lower end vega cards and therefore answer would be yes to that questioN)

They are refreshed Polaris architecture. Don't expect a significant performance increase but may come with lower prices. Still no reliable information yet.

We don't know because it's not released yet. However it does look like it's just a re-brand. RX 580 = RX 480 with higher core clock and maybe higher ram speed. But that's probably about it, at least if the rumors are indeed true. A nicely overclocked 480 will beat a 580. It's all about core clock speeds.

I presume 480's will drop in price when 500 hits the market..

They will only drop in price so shops can get rid of old stock. After that it's 580 only so if you want a 480 with a discount you need to keep an eye out for it.

depends i guess, if rx 580 gets sold a lot, probably they will but if they sell more 480 than 580, it should cost 20-25 bucks more the 580

When the 580 launches the 480 just won't be produced anymore. I don't see the point in AMD producing both when they are like exactly the same...

Personally I would go with the 480 8 gig or the new 580. They offer very good performance and have a huge frame bigger for what they are aimed at.

I love my MSI 480. It is very quiet and most games at 2560x1080 can be maxed out. Titles like battlefield even leave some room for positive resolution scaling and that's where the cram comes in handy.

1060 is now faster on average, but future updates may put that back in the 480's favor. You really can't go wrong.

Ok guys. What about an older card, such as a 970 (also in budget)

A 970 is way below budget, and a 480 is better and still in budget.

GPU: XFX RX 7900 XTX

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D

This just happened to me last week.

I had a rx480 8gb which was already exceptional for the price at msrp. (280$) played lots of shooters at ultra settings on a 3x monitor setup. Few days ago I got my hands on a 980ti for under 300$. (Was able to get it for even less, especially after selling my 480).

My point being, I recommend the rx480 or the 980ti. The AMD card might just go down further with the 580 releasing soon. While the 980ti might be a little harder to find on amazon or ebay, but if you do its really great.

I wouldn't get a 970. Due to the memory problem. However 980s or 980tis are getting cheaper and cheaper on ebay. I actually saw a shop in Germany well a new (only one unit available) 980ti from gigabyte for 330€. Very good deal.
