I've decided to go with the R9 280x as an upgrade for price to performance reasons, but I'm not too sure which brand to choose.

there are only 3 options, as everything else is sold out... although these are the 3 cheapest as well so that works i guess.

Sapphire R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 OC ; 870 ( BOOST 1020)MHz/6000MHz

Gigabyte GV-R928XOC-3GD 3G

MSI R9280X-GAMING-3G

The main reason I ask is I like my pc to be as silent as possible. There is good airflow in the case so there is no problem with heat disapation there. I'm just curious for your opinions on which one to go for in terms of noise production.

(they are all roughly the same price as well)

Thanks.

If you want silence, wait for a DCII.

The Msi gaming is the quietest of the 3 followed by the gigabyte, and the sapphire being the loudest.

unfortunately the direct DCU2 is outofstock and won't be instock for about 3months.. also it costs $40 extra and i'm pretty much at my limit with the ones above. out of those ones which would be the quietest in your opinion

Where do you live? On US e-tailers we get restocked in 3 or less days! But 3 Months?!

Australia. And I am unwilling to pay monstrous shipping costs from other etailers in aus (not to mention their prices are also higher to begin with)

Ahh. Good oul Aussy! Well I'd go for the MSI varient non-reference.

IMHO, I'd choose the Dual-X Sapphire R9-280X.

I have a Dual-X HD 7970 (pretty much a 280X) and it runs cool, and the fan isn't at all audible until ~ 60% - 70% fan speed. Well...there's probably a slight humming noise at ~50%, but the noise from other system fans will be louder than it...or your ear has to be at like point-blank range.

Don't get me wrong, DirectCUII is pretty damn nice...but the triple-slot card is a reaal pain sometimes (when you want to run two or three of these cards).

Nothing wrong with Gigabyte card as well...but their fan shroud and fans seems to be quite fragile.

Not all DCIIs are triple slotters. My 670 is a double.

I know, but the HD 7970 and 280X DirectCUII's use triple-slot coolers...

EDIT: Oh wait, right...ASUS now has a few different versions of the DirectCUII for the 280X.

The earlier 280X's had the triple-slot cooler; the new one is dual slot. :P

Not really. There should be a few variants which are dual slotted.

280X has the new cooler which is Dual-Slot.
