storage SSD on a SATA 2 laptop

Is it worth to go with and ssd or I should go with a bigger hdd?
i am doing the same thing , i am getting a (250gb) samsung 850 evo and swapping it out with my mechanical. but only because i am doing my build later in the year and it was on sale, but really all you are gonna get is some faster boot times and applications will open a bit faster, but yeah sata 2 limit is about 375 mb/s which is still bounds away from a laptop mechanical drive, and to be fair a cheap one is great to reduce the bottleneck, I was really pulled between a 250 and 500 version as well, but i went with 250, because i have an external 2tb, and my os and apps only take up about 150 gbs, but that was just to save some cost, but if you got the cash , then go ahead for larger size
