Hi,

As with each first Post on a Forum, I usually do not know what to write, however it is time to ask for your help.

I would kindly ask you to help me plan a desktop build for myself and 2nd one for my partner.

1st build:
Tasks: work and games
$ Budget $: as low as possible

I know, I've browsed LTT forum and I've found several builds that would cover this with ease but What I would like you to help me with is putting my concept in to "work".

My plan is to base this build on AMD due to price however if Intel will be better and cheaper option I have nothing against it.

Fatal1ty X370 Professional Gaming
AMD Ryzen 5 1600X or 7 1700X
Cooling:    stock - to be upgraded to water cooling (all-in one), I'm too lazy or busy to play with custom water loops.
16 GB in single channel (3200 MHz + ) to be upgraded to 2 x 16 (same kit) in dual channel and to 2 x 2 x  16 GB finally
Boot on 512 GB M.2 PCIe 3rd Gen x4 NVMe SSD + 2nd drive in Raid 0 as an upgrade
GPU:    AMD Radeon RX 470 or 480 - to be upgraded to VEGA  - WHEN it is finally lunched :  )
Storage: as an upgrade up to 4-6 TB in raid 10 on SSHD
Power Supply:        750 W+
Case:            open to suggestions
PS: Due to my work I still need DVD RW

Let me give you a bit info what I do, when not playing : )
I supervise Team of sales and I have HUGE amounts of E-mails (120k-150k per month) that I need to read and process. Many times I need to go back to search E-mail Archives and those are colossal (total of 100 TB). On top of it Standard Office workload including spreadsheets docs, Chrome (with several tabs open) and CMR system connected via VPN. From time to time I do have some Graphic work to do; like small video editing (max 5 min clips for shows) and small 3rd rendering (for stands during conferences, ect ...).

Note that I have a NAS in raid 10 (4 TB) via gigabit connection where I keep backup of all work (including E-mails). This is only local copy.

When not working I would like to use this machine to Game. I'm not keen to have 4K in 60 FPS on All Ultra for all games - I will be happy to have solid 1080p or 1440p with high refresh rates. Note that my monitor will not be able to do more than 60 either way ... and, Yes, I'm planning on changing it in some time.

2nd Build
Tasks: Graphic work and games
$ Budget $: as low as possible

Fatal1ty X370 Professional Gaming
AMD Ryzen 7 1800X
Cooling:    stock - to be upgraded to water cooling (all-in one), I'm too lazy or busy to play with custom water loops.
16 GB in single channel (3200 MHz + ) to be upgraded to 2 x 16 (same kit) in dual channel and to 2 x 2 x  16 GB finally
Boot on 512 GB M.2 PCIe 3rd Gen x4 NVMe SSD
GPU:    AMD Radeon RX 470 or 480 - upgrade additional card in crossfire
Storage: as an upgrade up to 4-6 TB in raid 10 on SSHD
Power Supply:        750 W+
Case:            open to suggestions

Let me give you a bit info what my Partenr does, when not playing : )
Heavy video editing (1080p at this moment), 3D modelling, 2D Graphics (Creation and editing). In short time he will be adding programming and game engines (testing 3d models in Games) to list. AND Gaming.

He also keeps backup on NAS.

Conclusion - as You can see from above our needs although very different still similar in equipment needed.

I would like your help and refine those 2 builds.

With Best Regards,
Io Nois

NVME makes little difference in boot times and is a lot more expensive.

Notes:

Hard to find single channel ram at 3200mhz and 16gb, definitely cheaper to do dual channel 16gb at first.

X Ryzen's don't have stock coolers, so may want to get Corsair H100 v2 instead of air at first.

Highly doubt you need Pci-e for boot drives, and would be cheaper to run w/ SSD's.

SSHD are crap, better off sticking w/ either SSD or HDD, for bulk storage, HDD is still king.

Just go with the Ryzen R7 1700 for both builds (Or maybe the R5 1600 if you want to save some money). Don't pay extra for the 1800X when you can just overclock it yourself.

Also if going for an NVMe SSD (Might be of use for the 2nd build) I would go with one of Samsung's offerings such as the 960 EVO.

@lee32uk If your refering to my pcpp lists, I was just throwing random stuff together for OP based on what he said, as to allow others to have a better picture, than a wall of text.

It was just a general observation, as the op has the 1800X listed in the 2nd build and an NVMe SSD.

No worries, thought it was directed at the list lol.
