What GPU?? 480 or 1060?

Im trying to decide what GPU to use and I can't decide, Ill be playing GTA V ALOT 

Im picking between RX480 or GTX 1060

If you pick a AMD card for GTA V you really want to have shadows & shaders to lower settings! (not to mention everything int he advanced menu but that goes for both cards!)

Woulda said 480 but if you're doing a lot of gta then I'd say 1060

If it's just GTA V, 1060. If you plan to be playing more titles in the future, RX 480.

1060 is better for GTA V, but keep in mind it is also likely more expensive in your area. so with GTA V it's pretty much a story of "you get what you pay for"

in nearly all other games, the RX 480 is better.

 

if you think that the 480 will give you enough performance for GTA V (which it should easily do) and know that you will be playing other games in the future, I'd still recommend the 480.

Uhmmm, no...... The 1060 is still faster in most 2015 and older titles and in many newer ones....:

I love playing GTA V, it's the game I play while listening to stuff in the background.

I still bought an RX480 8GB.

The fps might be 3 lower, but with GTA V you will still have dips in framerate caused by your CPU and I think a FreeSync panel would be a great next upgrade.

The 1060 gets significantly higher frames in just about everything right now.

 

The only real reasons to go with the 480 seem to be placing tons of faith in AMD, freesync, and more Vram.

And not to long ago the 480 beat it in just about everything, just go with whatever is cheaper/your preferred company. They are the same pretty much and sometimes the drivers make it perform better and sometimes the games are geared towards Nvidia/AMD

Sure. I'll give the 1060 a win in that department. the thing is, both the RX 480 and GTX 1060 can run old games no problem. 10-15fps lower doesn't matter very much when you can already get 100+ fps (usually)

 

however, in 2017 games, where either card might only reach 60fps on high, and 45ish on ultra, those 10fps the RX 480 gains matter a lot more.

older games like GTA V see an improvement with the GTX 1060, but new games and/or games written well with new APIs preform much better on the RX 480.

What? It depends on the game..... There are 2017 games in which the 1060 performs much better

I didn't realize that Nvidia drivers had changed so much.

I'd heard stuff about a big driver optimizing update for the 1060, but didn't think it would be this good.

 

I might need to change that thread in my sig then...
