I plan to build a new PC in two months and I am looking for recommendation about overclocking. I am trying to keep my build cheap so I am looking to pair a 7700 with a B250 mobo, but would it be better to spend a bit more for that extra performance. Please try not to keep in one-sided though if your all about overclocking and provide pros and cons for both.

Honestly I am looking at this right now https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIABFS5CV8058&cm_re=ryzen_1700x-_-9SIABFS5CV8058-_-Product

since its about the same price I put a 7770 with the RX 480 together. I would want to mail them and see if they have one with a 8GB RX 480

BUILD YOUR OWN PC!!

Not trying to sound elitist or something, but it's really super easy, and saves you hundreds of dollars.

with the money you save, you could even afford to kill your most expensive part (say CPU) and buy a new one, and STILL have it cost less than a prebuilt.

Well I have built my own PC, but I mean the cost of this one https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIABFS5CV8056&cm_re=ryzen_1700x-_-9SIABFS5CV8056-_-Product will be rather hard to beat.

It's hilariously easy to beat. build incoming

plus, slow RAM = slow performance on Ryzen.

Damn.

Sacrificing looks for performance in this one, but it seems like the best option. nice build m8

I did some research and found by getting some of my parts from microcenter I can get a Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3 AM4 ATX AMD Motherboard and a 2TB HDD for only 1101.5 in total for all the parts. Some parts I would buy based on the cheapest I could see on pcpartpicker. The RAM would also be 3200 not 2666mhz.

What's your budget? I think it also depends on what resolution you are going to game at, if it's 1080p the Ryzen 1700 will be all good, and then you also save some money on the CPU cooler and get some faster ram.

Honestly I'm trying to keep it under $1200, with a 1080p monitor but all I am looking for is 1080p gaming. Also why would I need faster than 3200mhz RAM?

Definitely go for that. 3200Mhz (assuming you can run it) helps Ryzen's Infinity Fabric out a hell of a lot, as it runs at half of RAM speed (ie 2133Mhz RAM = 1066Mhz IF) - 3200Mhz RAM would run the IF at 1600Mhz, which is quite a boost.

idk
