G4560 or i7 2600?

Basically long story short: My friend moved to Utah and didn't want to bring his desktop with him. He said it was "old and shitty".

 

 I was surprised when I peaked at it and saw an i7 2600 on a H61m motherboard. 

 

I was just thinking of upgrading to a g4560 and buying new DDR4 ram, and then a new mobo..

 

Except I heard the g4560 is a monster for single threaded performance and gaming. I'm just not sure if I should use his parts as it's around almost 5 years old, or just buy what I listed above (around 200$) or so.

 

I have a RX 480 paired with a fx 6300 (3.4ghz).

 

I mostly just like to game and alt-tab to watch YouTube videos, do tiny multi tasking shit like that. I heard Kaby Lake is a pretty big jump from Sandy Bridge, but still, I am not entirely sure what to do. Thanks in advance

I got an i7 2600 system for free a couple of months ago. It makes an excellent overkill pfsense router.

The i7 2600 is quite old, although is still a very good processor.

 

I would use an i7 2600 over a G4560. As it is not an overclockable processor, it would not have had a very hard life and would likely have another 15 years to give.

the 2600 is a 4c/8t part the g4560 is a 2c/4t part so 2600>g4560

I would strongly urge you to opt for the i7. It's higher core and thread count should make up for the older architecture. I know plenty of people who still run the K sku of that chip (so the overclockable one) and they're still rather happy with it and even though this one is not overclockable, you should still get a better gaming experience out of it than you get with the pentium. As for the RAM, I wouldn't worry too much about DDR3 being so much slower than DDR4.

I was using ani7 920 @ 3.5Ghz until a week ago and had no problems whatsoever in terms of gaming, so I would say stick to the i7

Confirmed i7 2600 > G4560

and the RX 480 should work, you may need to update your BIOS before it works, which means pluging into your mobo for intergrated graphics then reboot, and plug into your GPU.

I just got done installing the i7 2600 on the new ASUS P8H61-M. Took about 1-2 hours, had to re do cables in my case.. install the new psu I bought, etc, etc.

 

Anyways... Where has this i7 2600 been all my life? My godot game fucking opens almost instantaneously now (while debugging, editing), instead of a 1-2 second delay from my FX 6300.

 

All web browsing pages feel a lot faster. OS feels snappier, this is just insane. There is a huge difference from the fx 6300, it's night and day and I am so fucking happy! Sorry for cussing had to share
