Well I got on my computer today, and had downloaded New Vegas on Steam before I left for school. I came home today and started to play but realized how I wasn't used to the xbox controller I had plugged into my PC (wireless adapter) so I unplugged the charging cable that turned off the controller, then the game crashed, and every time I tried to use it it crashes... Now if I use any non-system application and press ANY key on my keyboard the application automatically stops responding. I booted with safe mode and it seemed to work correctly. I ran a quick virus scan and nothing turned up, so I'm running a more thorough one now, it's really concerning me because I am hoping its not hardware failure because not many of my parts are say 'cheap'. Any help would be great.

I will try this, I tried switching keyboards to an old mac one and the same issue occurred. I'm going to try to uninstall the xbox controller drivers once the security scan is finished just to insure it's not a virus.

I uninstalled the drivers for my keyboard, the wireless adapter, and the problem persists. I even tried using the on-screen keyboard and the same thing happens as a physical keyboard.

About 40% way through the virus scan it said it found 1 virus

what virus scanning software are you using and what is the Virus?  it sounds like a keylogger, trojan to me.  Or it might be rootkit or even a case of Virut.

I checked on the virus scan it was some kind of virus that was in a Windows Defender database, when I went to wipe it, it said it wasn't in the location that it thought it was.

remove Avast.  Its a peice of crap! I would check with Windows Defender and make sure it hasn't been locked down or quarantined or anything.  After doing so I would download the latest version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and update it.  Run a full scan with that.  Then download AVG.  Avast literally ran my computer dry of all its resources.
