I am arguing there was no reason to quote me because what I stated didn't require me to provide a link to the actual post.

My statement ("I am almost certain this is a repost") and your understanding of my statement ("You told OP it was a repost") have two different meanings. 

My statement means I was uncertain if there was a actual thread about this, that I was almost certain that there was one since the news broke out a few hours ago.

Your understanding of my post means that I saw the thread, and definitively told OP that this is reposted news and that there is a thread about it elsewhere.
