6 core streaming benchmarks

I'm talking about a modern 6 core 12 threads

 

Does anyone have some number of streaming with a 6 core in game. Streaming Vs just playing the game

I don't stream but I do have a watercooled and OC'd 6850K, and I can tell you it is more than enough for streaming when OC'd to around 4.4 GHz.

It depends on the amount of quality per bitrate you want from your stream

You can use hardware encoding (built into the modern video cards and it's basically free) but you get poor quality per bitrate. Alternatively, on the hardware encoding side you have intel's qsync which also uses hardware to encode but again, hardware encoders have less customization and poor quality per bitrate.

If you go with software encoding using x264, how much x264 affects your game depends entirely on the settings you use and the fps and the resolution you choose. for example, if you capture at 1080p but use some bilinear resize algorithm to resize to half (960x540) and use "ultrafast" presets, you won't even feel x264 as it encodes

On the other hand, you could encode 1080p at 3-5 mbps with raised quality settings and then x264 would noticeably affect your gaming experience.

 

On a Ryzen cpu, x264 would be fast enough to encode 4K content in real time at 30fps, maybe even more ... so you could grab a capture card like the one Linus uses ( avio 4k from epiphan) and broadcast 4k in h264 at around 10-15 mbps (if you have the upload bandwidth)

You won't notice a big difference in FPS, because most games can't use more than 8 threads

And as @tom_w141 pointed out, Ryzen 5 will be perfect for your needs.
