So I am going into college next school year and I have factored in that I will have a bout 1,500 left over from the loan I took to use on my computer. I plan on becoming a computer science major and I am starting to feel the performance of my current PC dying down. I don't plan on playing any games at all. This computer will be mostly used for video editing and coding along with some light blender work. I already decided on what case I am getting. I don't plan on upgrading my gpu as I just got it recently. I don't know what to get, Normally I would get the most overkill, but recently after I seen the price of college I realize I need to save some money. What is the most bang for the buck items should I get? Thank you guys for your help.

GPU:

Power Color Red Dragon RX 480

CPU:

Intel i7 3770 (non k)

CASE:

A HP Phoenix Case (a rondom one that I plan to replace with the NZXT S340 Elite)

oh my god someone actually bought a rx 480 red dragon !!! how is temps and stuff? i have this card and absolutely hate it

My case is so constricted that my cousin who helped overclock it said that the performance is hindered by it. Other wise it is a fine card. I dont game that heavily the highest taxing one is city skylines and that is more CPU intensive. The temps are decent going to 76ish when under load. It gets really loud though. Also I only got it because it was massively off for Black Friday (and i got civ 6 with it)

So are you saying to just get a new PSU and an SSD? I have about 1500 to spend so I think that is undercutting what I can spend.

76 wow. lucky you. mine reaches 80 degrees with fan speed at 90-95% which is worse thana reference card but it was cheap, I can feel it

1500 dollars or what currency are we reffering to? you might want to ditch that gpu lol and don't bother with PowerColor to RMA or smt it's useless i tried

Well you could get a new cpu, motherboard, memory, power supply, SSD etc. But the 3770 is still a decent cpu imo.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
