How do ultrawide monitors deal with 16:9?

LainVonDark

Hello,

I'd like to know how do 21:9 monitors (or GPUs) deal with games and other software that don't support 21:9 natively. The configuration in question would be a 1080Ti and a ROG Swift monitor, if it matters.

Thanks

Games on full screen will have black bars on the left and right side. Other than that you should have no issues at all.

sometimes its stretched to fit. so things go wide and short.

however even if the game doesnt support 21:9 you can just edit the .ini file or force start its resolution in steam with "-w 3440 -h 1440" commands in game start up instructions.

Gaming PC: • AMD Ryzen 7 3900x • 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3200mhz • Founders Edition 2080ti • 2x Crucial 1tb nvme ssd • NZXT H1• Logitech G915TKL • Logitech G Pro • Asus ROG XG32VQ • SteelSeries Arctis Pro Wireless

Laptop: MacBook Pro M1 512gb

Most games won't have a problem with 21:9. They are usually made to support any resolution and aspect ratio the user might have. Games that didn't have that much development might be stuck to 16:9 but in all of my games that didn't support 21:9 they just added black bars which wasn't that big of a problem

As said before, many games will support Ultrawide resolutions just fine. Some games however - like the Mass Effect Trilogy or Skyrim for example, which have Hud scaling íssues - may have various problems. If you find a game which doesn't work out of the box, just google it. Many people dedicate work to make games Surround-capable. These patches often help for Ultrawide resolutions too.

A tool you should definitely grab is Flawless Widescreen, which also fixes FOV issues, mentioned Hud scaling issues and more by memory hacks (please remind the risk for bans in multiplayer games, though newer ones normally support the resolution).

If Flawless Widescreen doesn't help, check WSGF.org for example, since some patches haven't been integrated into FW yet.

Hope I could help :)
