How do SSD's affect game loading times?

But how is it with BF4? Currently the first boot is a couple of minutes long (I can go make myself some food before it boots) and then it's still pretty long, like a minute or two.

First load after fresh install of Win8.1 and BF4. As soon as the game icon popped up, I counted 26 seconds. Like the guy previously mentioned, I had first pick of the vehicles.

Pretty simple question. I might want to buy an SSD next month, a 256GB one, but I am unsure about loading times improvements. I know that I will get siginificantly faster boot, but how does an SSD affect for example BF4 loading time? It's pretty slow on my HDD. Some numbers would be great.

If you want specific speed comparisons you need to give us specific hardware.

it makes it faster (like 5seconds on bf3 when im running game on WD green hdd) and thats about only difference i've noticed it

Skyrim. Fast travelling is so much faster. First boot into game is only like 6 or 7 seconds now compared to 20-30 seconds. Depending on how fragmented the HDD is.

My SSD died while downloading BF4. I ran it on the HDD since launch, and it was brutally slow. My replacement comes today. If I remember this post, I'll let you know.

BF4 on my PC (i7 + Samsung 840Pro SSD) loads in less than 30s

BF4 on my lounge PC (Slower i3 CPU & 7200Rpm HDD) loads in about 1.5-2 mins

 

 

Some games like SSD's more than others.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

ssd's are great in random access and sequential read , Games have pretty large files like textures 's and those will be loaded into memory much quicker .

Also small textures or scripts are loaded much faster from the ssd .

 

An ssd doesnt have to wait for a Hard disk head to move from one file to the other , and Hard drives are notoriously slow with multitasking .

I have bf3 on a 1TB WD Blue and it loads just fine

I have 2x 120GB SSD's in Raid 0 . with os installed on it.

 

i also have BF4 installed on it and compared to a Hard drive its much quicker.

on single HDD it would take +/- 1/2 min to load and the game would have already begun.

 

with my 2 SSD'd i load into each round like 10 seconds or less depending on the size of the map.

im normally 1st or 2nd to load in and ready to deploy.   so yeah it does make a big deference in load times
