Wireless speakers options (Multi-room)

Arcanekitten

I've already looked at offerings like Sonos but I find this quite expensive.

I would need something that would work in multiple rooms via the use of multiple speakers which aren't too expensive.

It is going to be used as a sort of background music in a garage/store area and I could plug it into a PC or maybe bluetooth/wifi.

I've thought of using cable but as the area is pretty big I don't think the cable will hold the signal so wifi might be a better option.

@SSL You know anything about these things?

A cat5e cable will hold a signal for 100m, assuming the connections and equipment are of decent quality. As for your question, I like using raspberry pi's and pi music box (http://www.pimusicbox.com/) to connect my iphone and itunes to my stereo system. It involves some DIY, but it has great flexibility and is super cheap.

Cheers!

Never heard of it, sounds wonderful a solid option. Only issue now is that I need to think about the speakers which I also asked about.

Yeah I know these ones but I want a more permanent solution and less expensive as these can rack up if you buy enough. I like the suggestion from @dany_boy but that doesn't include speakers.
