Doubt between two of the Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming

The Dell Inspiron 7567 uses a very low quality display. IMO this takes it out of the "good value gaming laptops" category, and puts it in the "higher-priced laptops with poor displays" category.

See if you can find one of these:

- Acer Aspire VX5-591G (as mentioned above)

- Lenovo Legion Y520

- HP Omen 15

- Clevo N850HK1 (most likely from a seller/reseller that brands it differently)

It can be diy replaced for $50 whenever he gets the money, and for some reason it performs a fair bit better than all of the other 1050 ti laptops (clevo excluded).

For the past two or three days I've been looking these laptops from Dell, the Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming series:

-Core i7 7700HQ and Gtx1050ti

-Core i5 7300HQ and Gtx1050

Both have 8GB of Ram and a 1TB SSHD with 8GB cache.

And as someone said on a recent thread I posted, i5 and 8GB of ram is more than enough to run most of the games right now with even a gtx960m.

So I want to make an informed decision because the one with the i7 and the 1050ti is 1.2 times the price of the one with the i5 and 1050.

My main point of choosing the i7/1050ti is the extra GPU power based on some benchmarks I found on GPUBoss, and with a little less weight the processing power I could use for some tasks in the future like 3d modelling or maybe some AI work.

But with the money not spent on buying the i5/1050 I could buy another 8GB RAM stick to upgrade it to 16GB.

The thing I like about these and something I know I could do in the future is to buy a M.2 PCIe 3.0 SSD, mainly to shorten the boot times of the OS and some applications, I'm making this assumption based on the most expensive model that has a 512GB M.2 PCIe 3.0 SSD, so I assume the others have that slot but not the drive.

I'd get the i5 and more RAM

as for the SSD, SATA will be just fine - NVMe are pricier for no tangible benefits (depending on the use case)

I just searched it and here on my country, the price difference is quite big, so thanks for recommending but it goes out of my price range.

These are at the very limit of it.

The 1050 Ti is considerably better than the 1050 and the 7700HQ will be a better option in future games. I'm already seeing the limitations of the 6300HQ here even with a 960M. It's not a bottleneck, but I can't stream/record and play without some obvious performance drop-offs in games. :S

Grab the i7. 8GB is fine and plenty.

EDIT: (after the thread was finished, but just to add)

- If you replace the screen the Inspiron's great. If you don't, I think you'll get a better overall user experience out of a different laptop that does have a good display, even if perhaps the battery life is a bit lower.

Considering I don't think to have the expertise or courage to do it, would you recommend to get the Omen over the Inspiron?

No I would not due to the inspiron being the better machine even with the bad screen, replacing the screen on the inspiron is easy and doesn't void your warranty (except for the screen of course).

This will show you how to do it, and it takes less than 5 minutes

I just looked at that video and got me thinking about how easy would it be to buy the display itself for me in Colombia, because he shows an amazon link but I don't know if I could get it shipped to me without impacting the cost/benefit ratio.

Would you recommend to me wait maybe up to a year to buy the display and change it? (because I'll be spending all of my money on the laptop, so I'll be spending that time with the TP panel), considering that my current Laptop is a Samsung Np300e4x with a Nvidia610m.

All of this got me thinking about that if I will really know the difference between them considering I've never had a device with more than 720p resolution.

He actually has a video that he made after that which shows how shitty that TN panel is with colors. There are many more replacement panels for that laptop and the one that was used on the 7559 is actually pretty decent, but I don't remember the name of it. @Pendragon if you could help?

My point is that my mother wants to give me a laptop to replace the old Samsung Np300e, so I offered to pay her for 1/4 of the laptop's price because it already is on the boundary of our price range and I want to get a good deal.

I'm asking for your advice about waiting minimum a year to replace the screen because I have to pay for my part of the laptop, and even then maybe wait a little while and begin saving some money to buy the Ips panel.

So, Do you think I will notice a difference between the TP panel and my current 720p panel that my Samsung Laptop has?

Note:

If I find the specs of my current laptop's screen, I will post them so maybe you can help me decide if it's worth the wait.

Thank you.

It will be livable, it isn't like a 2008 laptop screen, but it won't be the best experience.

Thanks a lot again, and have a great day.
