Hi, i put a temp ssd in my laptop and all the data is on the other hard drive that came out of the laptop.  i need to gain access to grab a few files as i dont plan to keep the windows 7 install on this ssd for long maybe just for a week.

i have plugged in the hard drive to a usb and can see the folder but i cant access it.  i have read that i can use the take ownership thing and gain access that way but then i am afarid that when i put the hdd back in my laptop i wont be able to use my profile like i am suppost to.  is there some way that i can gain access and grab the few files that i need without damaging my profile or os?

you could add an admin account of the other hdd to the one with the data right? right click on the user profile - properties - security - edit - add. it'll probably show up some failed msgs for system files but that's nothing. you should be able to copy the data from the user profile after that.
