Okay, it just said the HOST was down so i went for a comp came back and its fine.... Linus pls @manikyath @Votivee So the website went down and cloudflare was protecting the server from being attacked whilst it was down?

I believe that the site was attacked and went down, so cloudflare began protecting it. I'm not super knowledgeable on this though so don't trust me on it. If I'm wrong someone can feel free to correct me

a while back someone yammered about ads on the forums and linus wasting money on cloudlfare not doing crap because the week before someone managed to actually take the forum down and yatta yatta. in the end someone on the LMG crew came with a chilling fact: appareantly LTT forums get several attacks per week, and cloudflare is essentially the only reason it is up at all.

 

beyond that, at peak times even the quite beastly server the forum is ran off of tends to get unhappy, a few months back linus did a giveaway that drew so much attention to the forum the server managed to crash in the middle of giving me a 10 minute ban for refreshing too fast (appareantly two tabs was too much at that point) and it never got to writing the "10 minute" part of the ban :D
