First PC build

Hey, everyone, I'm building my first PC after having a $1k laptop for 2 years that I thought would be great for gaming because the Best Buy guys told me so. Anyways, I'm here to see if you guys can suggest anything to change or add on, I'm almost complete but I still have a few things to sort out. I'm trying to build an RGB PC build being able to hold 60fps almost anywhere. Everything on this list that says "Already Bought" I can still return for another 10 days.

 

Graphics Card: GTX1080 ROG STRIX Already Bought

CPU: Intel i7 7700k Already Bought

Mobo: Maximus IX Formula Already Bought

Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB  Already Bought

Storage: I am thinking one of the M.2 Samsung pros for my SSD (OP, favorite/high demanding games would go on here)

Ram: I was thinking the GSkill Trident Z RGB ram but they don't sell 4gb sticks. I want to get 4 4gb sticks to fill out my motherboard and don't want to spend double the price just because they don't produce 4gb sticks. I am unsure if I purchase two different kits will they not work as well with each other? I emailed them and they said so, but I want to hear from you guys. I am open to any other RGB ram suggestions. 

CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken x62 or x52 depending on what case I get

OP: Windows 10 Already Bought

Case: I was planning on the In Win 805i but everyone says that the cooling is terrible.

Don't get 4x4 sticks, you will regret it later, you don't gain anything either as it's still only dual channel, so get 2x8GB sticks.

Don't get m.2 SSDs, they don't improve boot up times or app launch times at all over sata SSDs.

The reason I want to get 4 sticks is for aesthetic purposes, as I am doing an RGB build. I don't know what you mean by dual channel, as this is my first build, care to explain? Thanks!

I don't understand the whole "for aesthetic" mindset really, to me it makes more sense to leave easy upgradeablility where you can, as in the case of memory sticks. If not you'd be buying 2/3/4 GPUs to fill out the sockets there too, lol.

Anyway, it's up to you, it's your build but you pay more sometimes for 4x4, plus if you need to upgrade, you then have to pull 2 or all of the sticks again to fit with your aesthetics. Good luck

the formula MB hides the m.2 so it looks nicer i get y he is doing this as i would and will be doing the same

same way i want to coz it looks a whole lot nicer and tbf its not going to be upgraded for a couple years

For a lot of em you can mount the SSDs behind the mobo tray or on the psu shroud.

I don't think it's a question of if it fits or not, but if the case supports it...

 

Anyhow, SATA SSDs are still WAYY cheaper than nvme ones.

Those are both SATA though. What DocSwag is referring to is NVMe i.e Samsung 960 EVO.

i didnt see the nvme bit sorry dont buy a nvme m.2? would be my answer to that though

That's not nvme, it's literally a sata ssd in m.2 form factor. It basically is using a sata interface, not a pcie one.
