New Build Display Problem

Hi all! 

 

Recently put together a new rig for music production and need some advice. 

 

Specs are:

Motherboard: Msi b250 mortar

Cpu: i7 7700k

Ram: G-skill Ripjaws 2400 8gb (Soon to be 16gb)

Storage: SanDisk Z400S M.2 2280 SSD 256GB (For windows, programs etc) and another 512GB SSD for audio samples.

Psu: Be Quiet Pure Power 9 400w

 

Im using a LG 43uh668v 4K tv as my monitor, and the PC seems to have trouble sending the signal to it at times when starting up.

Do i need a graphics card as its a 4K tv and any advice on what im needing?

No, you don't need a graphics card. What cable are you using to connect to the TV?

You will only be able to use 30Hz max though if at 4k with HDMI.. you chose a motherboard that isn't HDMI 2.

You can use Displayport though at upto 60Hz at 4k.

Yeah its HDMI im using to connect to the tv, theres isnt a displayport on it just 3 HDMI

Can you quote me if replying please, as I might not see it otherwise. cheers.

 

Are you sure about that? you don't normally have 3 HDMI on a motherboard, the specs for it says 1*DVI/1*HDMI/1*DP

 

The displayport looks a little like HDMI except one end is straight instead of slanted, look again and take pics if you can.

Ah i thought you meant the actual TV, yeah the board has displayport and dvi but the tv only has 3 HMDI. 

Is a HDMI to displayport adaptor the way to go?

But that's just an example, you actually need one capable of 4k res instead. if you'd prefer an adaptor then go for that, that way you can just use HDMI cables as usual, but still has to be capable of 4k res, the adaptor i mean.

There you go, capable of 4k adaptor. Don't forget to use the HDMI 2.0 port on your TV, in case it only has one.

No worries. You could still use the HDMI if you wanted, just not at 4k for 60Hz, your TV should auto handle that, but if not then go into display/port settings and force it to display 1920x1080.

I use my console on it fine with 4k, it upscales the 1920x1080 signal is all... my console only has HDMI 1.4 (ps4)

Got that converter box today and tried it out display turned on with the PC first time I started it up! But now every so often the display will flash on and off, drivers are up to date and I've tried setting different resolutions but still no joy

Try a different HDMI cable, see if that makes a difference... also check everything is fully inserted. Did you only just buy the TV? or have you had it a while? reason I ask is that sometimes people don't fully insert the power cable in the TV. Have seen this more than once, especially on TVs that take the IEC (kettle) leads.

That seems to be it sorted for now just changing cables and using a different hdmi port even though all 3 on this TV are 2.0b, cheers again mate.
