Hi, i have an ssd with an install of windows 7 on it and i did something stupid to it and all i get now is a black screen with the cursor.  i am going to grab my files off the system but i want to get a picture of the desktop layout that i have on that install.  is there someway that i might be able to do this?  can i copy the profile folder to another install of windows and login under the same information (i use a Active Directory Domain for logging into my computers) and have the desktop the way as it was on the install that i messed up?

i disable system restore as i usually don't need it.  i regret not making a backup of the ssd before doing all of this.  would there be anyway for me to make a copy of the desktop layout with a program perhaps?  i have done a hack to be able to open cmd from the black screen and i am able to do things.  could i make the program run under my name and grab a copy of the desktop layout by that means?

Did you change profiles? Can you get to your old desktop layout in safe mode? Did you forget to run "Windows 7 Loader + Activator"?

If you only want to save all the crap ON your desktop, you can find it in C:\Users\###PROFILE NAME HERE###\Desktop\

There you can find all the things you stored on your desktop. But the layout "is gone". The order in which you aranged your shortcuts and all, has been lost if you would just retrieve the data from your desktop. (at least, if you do it this way)

If the layout is already gone, I think there isn't any way to bring it back. You could backup current order with 2-3 ways. Screenshot, copy icons from desktop folder and use display manage such as DisplayFusion.
