look at your manual, to see if you put them into the correct dim.

they are in the right slots, when i take one out to see if it is a faulty ram stick the system doesn't boot

If you bios detects both DIMM's and your OS doesn't, then maybe do a clean windows install (or Linux if that's what you're using)

Oops, I misread your OP.

You might have a bad DIMM slot on your motherboard.

should i phone the company that supplied it to me

wait what!?

if you system doesn't boot anymore, one of the sticks is borked; or the DIMM slot

try putting one DIMM module at a time in different slots

Take both sticks out. Put 1 in dimm slot one - does it boot?

1

Yes - shut down - take dimm out put other stick in slot one - boots? Yes - dimm slot 1 and both sticks work - go to 2

No - take it out and put it in slot 2 - boot yes? dimm slot 1 is broke

2

Ok so both ram sticks and slot on work

put a stick slot 2 - boot works? Yes, shut down put in 3 rinse and repeat

Look in the BIOS which RAM is not detected, and reseat that one put it out and reseat it again be sure to put it right in. That could be the Problem.
